Ang Panday (The Blacksmith) (1980) is a popular Filipino action-fantasy film starring Fernando Poe, Jr. The movie is based on the fictional comics character of the same name, which was created by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan.

The movie was followed by three other sequels, also featuring Poe as Flavio, namely Ang Pagbabalik ng Panday (1981), Ang Panday: Ikatlong Yugto (1982) and Ang Panday IV: Ika-Apat na Aklat (1984). All four films were shown during the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Lost series

An animated TV series, dubbed as the first full-length Filipino animation series, was shown in RPN 9 during the mid-1980s. It was patterned after the storyline of the first movie. Only a few clips existed. The only known info is that it started on Nov 21, 1986, and lasted only for 6 months, which is May 1987. However, the Wikipedia page said it ended on 1988.

  • IT WAS BASED ON FPJ MOVIES AND CAPARAS'S COMICS(NEVER SAW THE COMICS SINCE I WAS TOO YOUNG THEN) BUT IT WAS THE VERY FIRST FILIPINO CARTOON SERIES, FOLLOWED BY CAPTAIN BARBELL VOICED BY DOOPHY... I FOUND OUT THAT THIS ANIMATOR WAS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR OGIE ALCASID AND JOLINA'S ANIMATED SEGMENT IN AN OCTO ARTS MOVIE (FOROGT THE MOVIE) ITS A SHAME THAT HE ALREADY PASSED AWAY AND NO MORE ANIMATED SERIES FOLLOWED...WISH PUGAD BABOY WOULD HAVE ONE.
  • SORRY IT WAS DOLPHY... I DONT HAVE ANY OTHER IDEA WHAT INSPIRED IT...I CAN BARELY REMEMBER THE PILOT EPISODE ON RPN 9 BY THE LATE HELEN VELA...I WISH I KNEW HOW TO RECORD BACK THEN... NOT SURE IF IT IS STARTED BY RPN, SINCE RPN DOES HAVE GREAT SHOWS BACK THEN ...AH , THOSE BYGONE DAYS.
  • I ALSO REMEMBER THAT FPJ WOULD READ OFF THE KIDDY FANS' NAMES EVERY EPISODE.
