Atlantic (aka Titanic: Disaster in the Atlantic) is an sound British film released in 1929, directed and produced by Ewald André Dupont and starring Franklin Dyall and Madeleine Carrol, It was also the first film of the Titanic to use sound.

Plot[]

On its maiden voyage to NY in April 14th 1912, the supposedly unsinkable RMS Titanic hits an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and starts to sink within 2 hours.

Availability[]

The film was released in 1929 in United Kingdom, but it was obscure for some reasons, Although a dvd of the film was released in 1999, It was the alternative version. The only footage of the film that were found was in a now deleted video in 2007.

More footage would be found in a 2011 video including the lost silent version clips of the film.

In April 5th, 2012 BFI or known as "The National Archive" uploaded a 1 minute Restored extract to Youtube. users weren't interested on finding the film, making the film more obscure and lost. In July 4th, 2018 a user uploaded a unrestored copy of the film to Youtube, as well with the restored extract being unrestored in the video, The other missing footage was the final scene of the movie was filmed as a shot of the Titanic sinking, but it was removed at the last minute for fear upsetting Titanic survivors, which is still lost. A reconstruction of the ending was an outtake of the final scene of the First 1953 Hollywood film about the Titanic and the Night to Remember scene.

Aftermath[]

As of 2025, Titanic: Disaster in the Atlantic is now in the public domain with other 1929 works. and restored by AI.

The film had 3 versions,

1. The silent version released in 1929?

2. The German version released in 1929

3. The French version released in 1930

Both of these versions were completly lost, unlike the sound version, The french and german versions posters are the only surviving material of these versions, While the Silent version has some clips that were found alongside with The sound version.

The German version was later found on April 10th, 2024, remarking the french version as the only lost version of the film.
