Best Tv Shows That Never Were - Unsold Pilots

Channel 99 footage starts at 14:02.

Channel 99 is an unsold NBC pilot intended for the 1988-89 season. Produced by Ron Howard, it starred Marilu Henner (Taxi) as a high-powered Los Angeles TV executive who had recently been released from a mental prison and returns to her rometown of Elmira, NY to revive her local TV station, which is getting killed in the ratings thanks to programs such as Shine Your Shoes With Mike and Bowling for Eggs. Howard makes an appearance in the pilot, being called "Opie from The Andy Griffith Show" by his interviewee. NBC rejected the pilot, although it did air on August 4, 1988 and clips were shown in the 2004 TV special The Best TV Shows That Never Were!. Only mere clips of the pilot, including those shown in the special, have been seen since.
