Cinema Concepts Theatre Service Company is an American animation studio and film distributors headquarted in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in producing animated theatre snipes and policy trailers for movie theatres. Established by Stewart D. Harnell in the mid-1970s (around 1977), they worked on plenty of generic and custom made trailers shown in hundreds of movie theatres around the world in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

Cinema Concepts produced animated trailers for these clients:

  • American Multi-Cinema, General Cinema Corporation, United Artists Theatres, Loews Theatres, Redstone (National Amusements), Plitt Theatres, Landmark Cinemas of Canada, Famous Players, Cinemark Corporation, Marcus Theatres, Mann Theatres, Pacific Theatres, Consolidated Amusement Company, Georgia Theatre Company, Fairlane-Litchfield, Floyd, Mid-America Theatres, Ogden-Perry, National Theatre Corp., United Amusements, Cinema Centers Corp., Sack Theatres, Trans-Lux, Metropolitan, Irvin-Fuller, Music Makers, Kerasotes, Commonwealth, Canadian Odeon Theatres, Septum Cinemas, and Cinerama, according to their advertisement on a 1983 issue of Boxoffice magazine.
  • Warner Bros. Cinemas, UCI, Warner Village Cinemas, Virgin Cinemas (UK), Famous Players, Cineplex Odeon, Empire Theatres (Canada), Hoyts Cinemas, Greater Union, Village Cinemas (Australia/New Zealand), SamBioin (Iceland), Caribbean Cinemas (Puerto Rico), UA Cinemas (Hong Kong), Ozen Film (Turkey)
  • The Coca-Cola Company, Pepsi-Cola, Rico's Nachos, Orville Redenbacher's
  • Dolby Stereo, Ultra-Stereo, Loews Stereo Surround
  • National Association of Theatre Owners

Many of their generic trailers have been supplied to independent and small-chain theatres and drive-ins throughout the years.

A lot of their early work sampled various stock motion graphics from the CASCOM Select Effects library, for example, the camera lens shutter animation for General Cinema Theatres in the late 70s / early 80s. Cinema Conceps also co-produced with CASCOM International, Flying Foto Factory, TOPIX Animation, and Triple Horse Productions.

From the information that I can compile, a number their computer animated policy trailers from the 90s, including the generic "Space Oddysey" and "Commandments" trailers, were rendered with SiliconGraphics and Alias Wavefront technology. Many Cinema Concepts trailers featured original music compositions from artists such as Ron Kristy, Dennis Scott, Jeff Teague, and Elliot Sokolov, produced with synth modules from Roland, Yamaha, and E-mu Systems.

Cinema Concepts supplied various snipe packages including Dyna/SuperDaters (Space Marquee), CompuDaters (MOVIE MAGIC), UltraDaters (Daters), MegaDaters, StarDaters, GlobalDaters, and so forth, many of which are yet to be found in their original 35mm prints and converted to a digital HD video format.

"Thou shalt not smoke-eth . . . (not in here baby, oww!) Deposit thy litter . . . (not on the floor, nooo!!!) Silence is golden . . . (hallelujah! hallelujah!) Bless you . . . (you-ooooh...) Enjoyeth the show!"

"Lock on Target." "Your silence is appreciated." "Time to visit the concession stand."

They are also known for using the phrase "Courtesy Is Contagious" in some of their policy trailers and daters.
