"A Nightmare on My Street" is a hip hop song by the hip hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Jeff Townes and Will Smith). The song appeared in their second album He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper as the first track of the album.
Before the album was released, New Line Cinema considered creating a music video as a marketing tool for the summer release of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. Jive Records (the label the hip hop duo were signed to) wanted to jump into the opportunity and allow the duo to create a video with their song. New Line Cinema had already begun negotiating with the rap group The Fat Boys for an official theme for the movie. A proposal was sent to New Line for having DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, which was immediately rejected.
The release date for He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper arrives and the song includes the proposed "A Nightmare on My Street" in the tracklist. Due to the fear of copyright infringement, New Line Cinema filled a lawsuit against Jive Records. It was also discovered that a video was made and the label was looking for broadcast channels to air it.
As part of the agreement, the label decided to destroy the video, though there is a possiblity that it still exists due to the fact that two clips of Smith in bed (from the video, we assume) allegedly edited together with other footage from the film in an attempt to avoid copyright. Moreover, future releases of the single had a disclaimer saying its disaffiliation to the movie franchise.
