Disney Crossy Road was a Disney-themed spinoff of Crossy Road by Hipster Whale. The game released on March 28, 2016 for Windows Phone, iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire. The gameplay is mostly the same as Crossy Road, with some changes to elements and characters.

The game was shut down on March 12, 2020, with all weekend challenges and micro transactions being shut down with it. The announcement was made on the Disney website.

Early Build[]

There are known to exist several early builds of the game dated 2015 and January 2016. Most have not been seen publicly so it is unknown what changes or what differences were present in what build. Some builds however were known to have the following differences from the final game (according to dev blogs):

  • The pixels icon used to be yellow similar to the coins. This was changed possibly to indicate them being separate currencies.
  • Most of the Mickey Mouse pack would have been unlocked or available in the prize machine, such as Mortimer. This was changed to some characters being daily mission unlocks or secret characters.
  • The game at a very early stage used Crossy Road's default font.
  • During testing stages for the daily missions, it was planned to be pay-to-play, with being able to participate in daily missions/weekend challenges requiring a pass which costed an unknown amount. This was changed late in development however for unknown reasons.
  • The artstyle for Mickey Mouse would have been more likewise to his modern design rather than his classic design, and the map would have had no outlines.
  • The share system initially shared a screenshot rather than a 3D view, and could only be saved to Photos or to email.
  • Enchanted characters were initially not meant to be standalone unique characters, but rather special variations of already existing characters with the added bonus of pixel pickup.
  • Toy Story would have lacked chompers and blocks and would have acted as a standard Crossy Road map with no special details.
  • Inside Out would have had 2 variations of maps. The memory map and an unknown map which represented San Francisco, available to non-emotion characters. This was changed due to the city idea being planned for other expansions. The memory map would have also lacked memory pickups and deposits.
  • Wreck it Ralph would have lacked cherries and specials.
  • The Lion King has no known differences.
  • The logo was different.

Availability[]

Currently, the early builds of Disney Crossy Road are lost. However notes and progress of development are available in the several blogs of developers and helpers of the game due to the wanted publicity for release.
