Dragon's Lair is an American, action, adventure, fantasy, romance, family, children's, animated film. It is based on the video game franchise of the same title. It is co-produced by Don Bluth Films, Don Bluth Productions, and Vertigo Entertainment.
Plot[]
Following the same storyline as the original video game, a knight known as Dirk the Daring goes on a quest to save the damsel-in-distress, Princess Daphne, from a castle. But he has to get passed the dragon, Singe, and a wizard named Mordoc.
Status[]
The film's origins actually date back to the 1980s and it's intended to be a prequel to the video game series. An attempt was made to get a film version of the first game off the ground back then, but the plan fell through the cracks due to lack of interest from the studios to which the film was pitched. Over three decades later, in 2015 and 2016, the video game's creator, Don Bluth, launched a Kickstarter campaign to get funding for it. However, it was a failure, so another approach was tried with Indiegogo, which turned out to be a success, making more money than what the initially planned total was. Following that, a few trailers of the movie version were released online. It was originally supposed to be picked up and distributed by Netflix, but then Netflix decided to change the direction of it by having it be made into a live-action adaptation instead. So the animated film remains in limbo once again. What happens next, whether the animated film will still be made once it's shopped around again and some other distributor picks it up remains to be seen.
