The Hallo Spencer Show

Artwork for The Hallo Spencer Show

Hallo Spencer (retitled as The Hallo Spencer Show in the Saban English dub) is a German children's television series that ran from 1979 to 2001, over 275 episodes were produced between those years.

Saban International Dubs[]

In 1989, Saban International acquired the foreign rights to Hallo Spencer and then began translating and dubbing the show. According to Wikipedia, Hallo Spencer was dubbed for Israel, Spain, Singapore, Russia, Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands, along with an English dub[1]. The dubs were described to be rushed in terms of translating and rearranged scenes causing continuity errors, the English dub would not start airing in North America until 1992[2]. Many of the characters names were changed like Nepomuk becoming Grumpowski, Elvis as Elmar, and the most notable being Spencer himself who was renamed to Hallo Spencer in order for the neon Hallo Spencer sign in his office to make sense.

PentaTV Dub[]

Hallo Spencer's production company, PentaTV would produce a more faithful (and apparently inhouse) English dub of their show. It's unknown how much of the show was dubbed by PentaTV as only two episodes were released on a Hallo Spencer DVD box set. As of now this is probably the only clip available of it online.
