Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil was a LeapFrog mobile educational app (and stylus device) developed by Chewy Softwawe LLC and based on the popular Mr. Pencil franchise. Designed to teach children how to write letters, numbers, and shapes using finger or stylus input, the app was available on iOS devices and select LeapFrog tablets. The game was praised for its colorful visuals, interactive lessons, and fun animated characters like Mr. Pencil, Dot, and Dash.
The app was released in 2013 and promoted through LeapFrog’s official website and app store listings. It featured a number of themed locations within Doodleburg and offered guided handwriting practice using animated lines and tracing exercises.
Though it was a standalone app, it shared characters with Mr. Pencil Saves Doodleburg and The Lost Colors of Doodleburg may have reused or expanded on that content.
As of 2016/2017, Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil was delisted most likely due to compatibility issues or in favor of the toy "Mr. Pencil's Scribble and Write". VTech also acquired LeapFrog in 2016, so this is an another alleged reason on that. LeapFrog may have delisted content from it's website catalog,
Despite some interest from educational media archivists and lost media enthusiasts, no public .ipa (iOS app file) or .apk (Android install file) has surfaced. It is unknown if any private builds or backups exist.
Currently only the stylus is available on eBay and other rare media shopping sites.
