According to Wikipedia[1], there were late 50s, or early-mid 60s commercials for Jif peanut butter that had a mascot called "Jifaroo" and used the slogan, "Jif is never dry; a touch of honey tells you why." There aren't very many sources that provide information on the old commercials, but an article relating to false memories of Jif being called Jiffy in the past DOES provide info on Jifaroo being a mascot, and also the commercials saying something like "An easy meal that can be done in a Jif-fy".[2] There isn't much information on the old Jif commercials that said "Easy meal in a Jiffy" with the Jifaroo mascot, but it is believed that these commercials are what formed the false memories of Jif having a former name, Jiffy, and also, it is believed to be the combination of old commercials for Jif and Jiffy Lube motor oil commercials, plus Jiffy popcorn. Again, though, Jif was never called Jiffy, but there were said to be late 50s, early 60s ads that said "Easy meal in a Jiffy" that featured Jifaroo as the mascot. Here's some more info. There were confirmed to be commercials from the late 70s, 80s, and 90s that said "Choosy moms choose Jif"[3] and unlike the Jifaroo commercials, they are on YouTube.[4][5]
