Maho no Mako-Chan (or Magical Mako in English, also known as Mako the Mermaid) is a 1970 Japanese, magical girl, fantasy, comedy, drama, romance, shoujo, family, children's, anime television series. It was produced by Toei Doga/Toei Company/Toei Animation. It ran for one season and 48 episodes.

Plot[]

Essentially a more modernized reimagining of The Little Mermaid story, Mako was originally a young siren and the Sea King's daughter. She finds an athletic type named Akira caught in a squall and goes off to save him. But she ends up falling for him. She goes to the Sea Witch for help in order to be with him. The Sea Witch has Mako turned in a human. Mako attends high school where she aids others in need with the use of her enchanted pendant, Tear of the Mermaid.

Status[]

One episode (the first) is available on Aniwave (formerly 9Anime). Other videos of it that have been found currently are of the intro, outro, and clips. The rest of the series has yet to make its way online.
