Toys and Games

Back in the 90's, Nickelodeon's GAK and FLOAM products were sold in Japan under the respective names of "ガック" and "フローム". There were also some video games released in Japan based on Nickelodeon properties, but mostly SpongeBob SquarePants. Even the Nicktoons Unite was released in Japan, under the title "スポンジボブと仲間たち" (SpongeBob and Friends), but only "Battle for Volcano Island" and "Attack of the Toybots" and others were released and could be played on the Nintendo DS system.

In 2009, Nick Japan went off the air until early 2018. This was most likely because of a decline in viewership and/or low ratings. There's still footage and pictures of the Japanese version up on the Internet, however. The website is still up as well. A link for the website can be seen in the KaBlam! episode "KaFun!".

Up until 2018, a good chunk of Nickelodeon's shows were left without a channel to air on. The only exceptions were SpongeBob, which aired on NHK, Animax, and a whole bunch of other channels (as well as being available on Japanese DVDs), The Fairly OddParents, which occasionally aired on Disney Channel Japan (it was also available to watch on Netflix and the Treehouse Direct Japanese YouTube account), and Jimmy Neutron, which used to air on Kids Station. As for newer Nick shows, a few of the sitcoms such as iCarly, Victorious, The Thundermans, and others aired on NHK Educational TV. Some Nick Jr shows also aired in different places. The Backyardigans used to air on Disney Junior Japan (and was also on Netflix and YouTube like Fairly OddParents), and Dora used to air on TV Tokyo and Tokyo MX.

Return in Subscription form

In late 2017, it was confirmed that Nickelodeon Japan would return in subscription form on Hulu during early 2018, after nine years of being off the air. The current shows on the newly launched Nickelodeon Japan include SpongeBob, Dora, TMNT 2012, Team Umizoomi, Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda (though the two of these shows that are affiliated with Nickelodeon at the time are now owned by Universal), iCarly, Rabbids Invasion, Blue's Clues, Rugrats, All Grown Up, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Avatar, Invader Zim, Wild Thornberrys and Supah Ninjas. Shimmer and Shine, Wallykazam and Blaze and the Monster Machines were also on the lineup, but they were not dubbed and instead were in English with Japanese subtitles.
