In 2001, an edited version of the anime Outlaw Star was broadcast on the American Cartoon Network. The show had new lines recorded and footage digitally edited in order for the show to receive a "TV-Y7" rating.
However, unlike other shows such as Yu Yu Hakusho and Tenchi Muyo!, this edited version was never officially released on VHS or DVD, leaving it lost to time.
There have however been reports of people receiving the Toonami edited version on bootleg DVDs, as well as the edited dub of the episode "Maze of Despair" playing as part of the Toonami April Fools event on Adult Swim on April 1, 2012.
UPDATE JANUARY 2021: The links to episode 2 on the Internet Archive below no longer work, as the url cannot be found anymore. However, the original recordings of the show (including episode 2) were published to YouTube by a channel named Velkrive. All the episodes are included on his channel, except for 18 and 23. He was not able to get access to episode 23 because it didn't originally air, and he did not post episode 18 because it has not been found in full yet.
UPDATE JUNE 2021: Velkrive's channel appears to have been terminated some time ago, making these videos lost once more. However, they've been found on the Internet Archive for anyone to watch in a playlist.
