Panel de Pon GB is a canceled game for the Game Boy Color. The game was mostly a port of Panel de Pon for SNES, but with a new story and some elements from the cancelled Panel de Pon 64, which later resurfaced via the Nintendo Puzzle Collection compilation for the Gamecube. The game was eventually cancelled and turned into Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. However, most of the game data still remains inside of the Pokémon de PanePon rom, and as a result, there is an ongoing effort to restore the game.

Panel de Pon GB Demo[]

A demo version of Panel de Pon GB is accessible inside of Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. If using a non-GBC Game Boy, it can be accessed from the GBC-only screen by pressing A (24x), B (24x). (You will hear a chime after pressing each button the required amount of times.) If on a Game Boy Color or a newer handheld, the GBC-only screen must first be triggered from the title screen by entering Up (2x), Right (4x), Down, Left (10x), Up (4x), Right, Down (6x), B. Once the screen is displayed, pressing A (24x), B (24x) will launch Panel de Pon GB.

Alternatively, it can be accessed by using Game Genie code 1F0-23B-80E, which will start Panel de Pon in GBC mode, or 1F0-3AB-91E in any other GB mode.

The demo version only provides a bare-bones menu, a single-stage, and Lip as the sole playable character. This version is likely representative of the style, graphics, etc. that would be used in the original Game Boy release (as opposed to its later Game Boy Color update, which, like the original Game Boy version, was also eventually cancelled).

Restoration Project[]

There's an ongoing project that aims to restore Panel de Pon GB completely, using the residual data inside of the Pokémon Puzzle Challenge rom. So far, characters, stages, music, the suspend screen, the title screen, and much more have been restored. Most of the game data is available, with the exception of the story mode text, which has been overwritten. Fortunately, the cutscene graphics remain, along with story music, stages, and dialogue icons.
