Puppy in My Pocket: Adventures in Pocketville (known in Italy as Cuccioli cerca Amici: Nel Regno di Pocketville) is an Italian animated television series based on the toyline of the same name, which is a part of the larger In My Pocket franchise.

Three English dubs exist, but as of now, the US dub is the only one of the three where all episodes have been found with the dub. A UK dub exists as well (it is evident that this dub was made before the US as the US one borrows over voice lines of certain characters from the UK one), though it is also quite rare, having a copyright block before it was lifted in 2020. However, only most episodes have been found with the dub.

Some of the episodes of the UK version have different titles from the US version.

The dub, just like most dubs of this show aside from the original Italian version, has aired on Boomerang between 2011 and 2012.

Findings[]

So far, only all of the first half (also known as Season 1) and most of the second half (Season 2) with the exception of ten episodes have been uploaded to YouTube, most of which were uploaded by a channel known as Redmoonguitar15. Part 1 of “The Homecoming” has been uploaded by RoxyCockerSpaniel, albeit with lower quality audio and some parts cut. HD versions of some of the episodes were made by The Pocketville Vault, though they use the US footage for them as the US title cards appear.

The series is available on Amazon.co.uk through Amazon Prime, though the episodes have the US titles instead of the UK ones (for example, the episode Together Forever is known as The Homecoming in the UK, and it has the former title on Amazon Prime), so it is most likely that Amazon Prime only has the US dub.

In 2017, Mondo TV’s YouTube channel Mondo World uploaded the series in different languages, though out of the three English dubs, they have only uploaded the US one. As of 2020 they removed the uploads from the channel, possibly leaving other language dubs lost.

DVDs of the show have been released in the United Kingdom, however, it is currently unknown if they have the UK dub.

Changes[]

  • Rather than “mom”, Kate refers to her mother, Maria, as “mum” in this dub. As Maria retains her UK lines in the US dub, in both dubs she says “…until mumma’s work is finished” in the episode Friendship Ceremony.
  • In the episode Juno, the titular character pronounces geyser as “GEE-zir”, (as in “key”) which is the British English pronunciation. In the US dub, this was changed to “GAI-zir” (as in “guy”) to fit the American English one. The same goes for Magic when he mentions geysers, except that he is voiced by two different actors in the separate dubs (the UK voice actor is Wayne Forester, whereas the US voice actor is Johnny Yong Bosch).
  • In Friendship Ceremony, Peter calls the television set in his and Kate’s new home as a “top-of-the-range TV”, which is said as “top-of-the-line TV” in the US dub. What’s bizarre is that he uses the term “TV” rather than “telly”, which the latter is often used more so in the UK.
  • In Believe in Yourself, when Kate mentions the equivalent of Pawball in her world, she says football instead of soccer.
  • In The Pet Buster, William refers to Slowpoke as “she”, which was changed to “he” in the US dub (however, the latter also has Zull refer to Slowpoke as “she”).
  • In Operation: ‘Princess’, Ava in the UK dub says “And I thought that it was an accident.” This was changed to “And I thought that you were truly sorry” in the US dub.

Trivia[]

  • Although this is the UK dub, the characters occasionally use terms more often used in American English.
    • Oddly enough, just like in the UK dub, Kate in the US dub also refers to the period before she starts school as “the holidays” rather than a vacation.
