Spliced is a Canadian animated television series produced by Nelvana in association with Teletoon that first aired from September 19, 2009 until March 13, 2010 in the United States. Spliced is a modern take of H. G. Wells' 1896 science-fiction fantasy, The Island of Doctor Moreau. Spliced marginally distorts Wells' characters in this modern twist by making the mutants the result of genetic experiments created by recombinant DNA rather than Wells' original vivisection process. As with the original story, these experimental results, adding one platypus not in the original story, live on an isolated tropical island that is called "Keep Away Island" in the cartoon. The mad scientist who created them was arrested and removed by authorities via boat. Left to their own devices, these mutated beasts form a functional society.

A pilot was produced in 2006 (three years until the series started), the plot is the same as the first episode. While, no footage had been found, but the concept art have been found, there were claims that some of the pilot's footage was on a trailer about this show, but it's unknown if it's true or not. The claims might have been false, considering that the trailer doesn't have the pilot footage. It might have been with footage from the first episode, but with minor differences, the characters looked different, but the style is a little identical to the show's final-cut style. The pilot is lost and It's unknown if Simon Racioppa and Richard Elliot has the pilot or not, considering they were working on Grossology at the time of the pilot's creation.
