The Muppet Show is a family-oriented puppet show that aired from 1976 to 1981 on ITV in the UK and syndication in the US. It aired in more than hundred countries.

In 1981, TV Asahi aired a Japanese version of the show with only a few episodes from June 7 to September 27 of that year. One of the notable voice actors was Yasuo Yamada, best known for voicing Lupin the 3rd, as Kermit the Frog.

In the same year, a translated version of the Muppet Show Book, which featured recreations of existing sketches from the first two seasons, is published.
