The Music Shoppe is a 1981 American, musical, sitcom television series. It was co-created by Gene Weed and Jim Engelhardt. It was produced by Skylark Productions Ltd. It ran for one season and 13 episodes. It's notable for having a cast that included Bing Crosby's son, Gary Crosby; actress/singer, Nia Peeples (also from fellow 1980s T.V. show, Fame); and future music executive, Benny Medina.
Plot[]
The proprietor, Crosby as himself, runs the Indianian, eponymous store. But one day, as fate would have it, he would meet four senior high students: Darcie, Christopher, Adam, and Mack (Peeples, Medina, Stephen Schwartz, and David Jackson respectively) who play in a yet-to-be-named band and happen to come to his shop, looking for a place to practice, and rehearse. In the spirit of kindness, the owner decides to compromise with them, renting out a space in the store in exchange for a dollar. This could be beneficial, as their act could boost Gary's business, drawing in more customers. While the teens work towards their goal of breaking into the music industry, they perform one or a couple musical numbers each episode. Sometimes, Gary would sing a tune and, oddly, Champ, the dopey owner of an establishment next door called The Greasy Spoon, would sing as well.
Status[]
To date, eight of the episodes have been found, though the titles of a couple of them are unknown, and are available on Youtube. Five other episodes remain missing, the titles of those are unknown as well (probably, at least, at the moment), and they have yet to be recovered.
