The Thomas & Friends Institute of Innovation is a strange movie, it was made by Studio Hansa around 2013 to promote the Thomas & friends franchise to commissioners and merchandising partners. What is strange about it is that it features scientists experimenting with the engines, featuring the Thomas growing arms, Percy being injected with Botox and Sir Topham Hatt being tested with steroids. The film has never been released publicly, however, some parts of the movie, including a few screenshots and clips have been released to the public.

Findings[]

To promote this film, two trailers for the movie where released onto Vimeo, they can both be viewed On the videos section bellow.

Along with these clips, a few other screenshots where also released onto Hansa's website.

Many years later, Twitter user Starlightfan02 discovered that the studio had posted more screenshots onto their Instagram as a throwback. The Tweet can be viewed here: https://twitter.com/starlightfan02/status/1347169217947303943.

Trivia[]

  • A remixed version of the show's theme song heard in seasons 1-7 (seasons 1-6 in the US) can be heard in the trailers.
  • It has been speculated that the film was a metaphor of sorts to the changes made to the Thomas & Friends TV Series around the time the film was made. It's also been said that the movie demonstrates that the franchise does not need to be modernized.
