When The Wizard of Oz was completed the film ran at almost three hours long. So, Many scenes had to be deleted. Three sneak peek previews helped guide the directors as to which scenes they needed to delete. The deleted scenes are The Scarecrow Dance, The Over the Rainbow Reprise, The Jitterbug, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead Reprise, and other minor dialogue sequences and other minor scenes. Stills of some of the deleted scenes still exist and the audio for The Over the Rainbow and Ding Dong the Witch is Dead reprises still exist. The Scarecrow Dance was rediscovered in 1972. A brief bit of footage from the Ding Dong the Witch is Dead reprise was in the trailer for the movie. It is unknown if the original uncut version exists anymore since in 1967 MGM had a vault fire which could have destroyed it and the Thorpe version also.
