In 2007, it was announced that 007 actor and celebrity Pierce Brosnan would be taking over as the narrator for both English dubs of the TV show Thomas & Friends aka Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends, replacing Michael Angelis for the UK dub and Michael Brandon for the US dub, beginning with the special "The Great Discovery". In addition to narrating "The Great Discovery", he was also supposed to narrate Series 12-14 and three additional specials. However, producer and showrunner Simon Spencer believed it would not be appropriate for Brosnan to narrate the series, which Spencer believed was on a smaller scale. Therefore, Angelis and Brandon remained as narrators for Series 12-16 and four additional specials: "Hero of the Rails", "Misty Island Rescue", "Day of the Diesels", and "Blue Mountain Mystery".[1]

Evidence had been shown that Pierce indeed recorded the dialogue for the narrations. In the BTS feature on The DVD of The Great Discovery, He can be heard recording the dialogue for the episodes "Thomas Puts the Brakes On" and "Best Friends". A Reddit user is said to own two episodes them being "Mountain Marvel" and "Rosie's Funfair Special" (Rosie's Carnival Special in the US dub) but has not yet released them.

On April 19th 2011, a YouTube video showing a 38 second clip of the episode "Gordon Takes a Shortcut" with a audio clip of his narration had been found. The clip had originated from Dino Athanassiou of Stardust Pictures' website.[2] So far, as of February 2024 nothing official have been released of his narrations.
