Viewer of the Year 2006 was a one-off quiz show all about the year in British TV. It aired on Saturday 30th December 2006 on ITV1. Hosted by Kate Thornton, 50 civilians battled it out to become the "Viewer of the Year"; the 10 bottom players were eliminated after each round, leaving the eventual winner Neil Mitchell who had won £10,000 to himself. Various celebrity guests such as Ricky Tomlinson from The Royle Family, Chantelle Houghton who won Celebrity Big Brother that year, Jason Donovan & Myleene Klass who were contestants on that year's I'm a Celebrity..., Paul O'Grady, Fern Britton among many others. The questions were about popular shows such as Dragon's Den, Big Brother, The X Factor, The Royle Family and mostly about Coronation Street. This was one of two replacements for Record of the Year (where Westlife always kept winning), which was axed the previous year; the other was 2006 Greatest Hits, which was about the best top 40 songs of that year (indie heavy), that show is also lacking footage so I might review that too one day. After this one and only edition, the TV quiz was largely and still is forgotten and hardly any footage was surfaced online. The only traces of it remaining are Jason Donovan & Myleene Klass's performance of Any Dream Will Do (with the Kate links), uploaded by digitalmediafan and a 30-second promo of it during the video "ITV1 continuity- Wednesday 27th December 2006" that was uploaded by YouTuber Daniel Mullins.
